Step-by-Step Instructions for Balsamic Roasted Onions
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and gather your ingredients and equipment.
  2. Peel and slice the sweet onions in half crosswise.
  3. In the casserole dish, mix olive oil and butter and melt in the preheated oven for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Whisk in balsamic vinegar, dry white wine, salt, sugar, and pepper until well combined.
  5. Place the onion halves cut side down into the mixture, cover loosely with foil, and bake for 20 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil, turn the onions over, and baste with pan juices.
  7. Bake uncovered for another 20-25 minutes until tender and caramelized.
