  • 1 medium Onion yellow or white
  • 3 cloves Garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil or vegetable oil
  • 28 oz Tomato Sauce canned or homemade
  • 6 oz Tomato Paste
  • 1 cup Water use leftover tomato sauce can for measurement
  • 1 tbsp Oregano
  • 1 tbsp Basil dried or fresh
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
For the Cheesy Layers
  • 16 oz Mozzarella Cheese shredded
  • 15 oz Cottage Cheese or Ricotta Cheese cottage cheese is easier
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese grated
For the Noodles
  • 12 oz Lasagna Noodles traditional or oven-ready

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions for Classic Lasagna
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a large baking dish with non-stick spray.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil and sauté chopped onions and minced garlic for 3-4 minutes.
  3. Brown the ground beef in the skillet for 5-7 minutes and drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper, then simmer for 20-25 minutes.
  5. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions or skip if using oven-ready noodles.
  6. Layer meat sauce, noodles, cottage or ricotta cheese, and mozzarella in the greased baking dish.
  7. Repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used, finishing with noodles and sauce on top.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 50-60 minutes, then uncover and bake an additional 10 minutes.
  9. Allow the lasagna to cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serve.
