Preparation Steps
  1. Cut the brioche or challah bread into 1-inch thick slices and arrange in a greased baking dish.

  3. Pour the custard over the bread slices, press down gently to absorb, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  5. Bake the French toast for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown. Broil for an additional 2 to 3 minutes if desired.
  6. Sprinkle an even layer of granulated sugar on top and caramelize using a culinary torch or broiler.
