Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by pouring 4 cups of water into a pot. Place it over medium-high heat and bring the water to a vigorous boil, which will take about 5–7 minutes.
  2. After boiling, turn off the heat and immediately add 4 tablespoons of Thai tea mix, 4 star anises, and a crushed cardamom pod to the pot. Stir gently to mix the ingredients, then let the tea steep for 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Once steeped, add your preferred amount of sugar to the mixture. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved, usually taking about a minute.
  4. Next, grab a fine mesh strainer and carefully pour the tea through it into a heatproof container.
  5. Allow the brewed tea to cool to room temperature for about 15 minutes, then transfer it to the refrigerator to chill for about 30 minutes.
  6. Once the tea is chilled, gather your serving glasses and fill them with ice cubes.
  7. Pour the chilled tea into each prepared glass, filling them up to about three-quarters full.
  8. Finally, gently pour evaporated milk, coconut milk, or half-and-half over the top of each glass of tea.
  9. Optionally, serve each glass with a straw, inviting everyone to mix before drinking.
